World Hemophilia Day Celebrated by Fortis Hospital

World Hemophilia Day Celebrated by Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana on Friday.

Ludhiana, April 17, 2015: To mark the occasion of World Hemophilia Day on Friday, “Fortis Hospital Ludhiana” in association with a Portal organised an awareness activity to raise people’s awareness of the disease and hereditary bleeding disorder, aiming to help better treatment for hundreds of thousands of people who are living with the disease. Hospital raised awareness about this disease by distributing red ribbons to the staff and also a Red cake cutting ceremony was done by Senior Patients and kids. Around 70 patients participated in the activity along with the staff.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Harpreet Brar, Admin Head, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana said “Hemophilia is a group of inherited blood disorders in which the blood does not clot properly. Bleeding disorders are due to defects in the blood vessels, the coagulation mechanism, or the blood platelets. An affected individual may bleed spontaneously or for longer than a healthy person after injury or surgery. When coagulation factors are missing or deficient the blood does not clot properly and bleeding continues. Patients with Hemophilia A or B have a genetic defect which results in a deficiency in one of the blood clotting factors.
Giving more information Dr.Brar said, “Queen Victoria was a carrier and passed the mutation to her son Leopold, and through several of her daughters to members of the royal families of Spain, Russia, and Germany.”
Also present on the occasion were Shivraj Singh Nakai, Dr Bineet Kaur, Dr.Rajat Bhatia, Dr Sanjeev Mahajan, Dr Soma Gupta from Fortis Hospital Ludhiana and also Saurabh Dhanuka, Shiv Kishore Chaudhary, Joginderpal Singh and Vinod Rawat from the Portal concerned.
