WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATED AT PANJAB UNIVERSITY WITH FULL ZEST AND VIGOUR

Chandigarh June 5, 2016: Under the banner of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan of Panjab University, Centre for Public Health, Horticulture Division, ENACTUS team of Dr.SSBUICET, Natural Biodiversity Group and Bicycle lovers' group of Panjab University jointly celebrated World Environment Day at Centre for Public Health, South Campus. Shri Vineet Punia, Director Public Relations graced the occasion as chief guest. The event started by taking Swachhta Pledge by more than 100 participants. Other activities undertaken during the event were: Plantation of medicinal plants like Arjun, Chandani, Neem etc., eradication of congress grass, huts and water pots for the birds, irrigation of existing plants andcleanliness campaign around U.I.E.A.S.T. Thereafter participant enjoyed and appreciated the exhibition put up by the Natural Biodiversity group followed by the cycle rally by the Bicycle Lover’s Group in Sector-25 Campus. Plantation and cleanliness drive was undertaken in the supervision of Dr. Suman Mor, Coordinator, Centre for Public Health and Er. Anil Thakur, Horticulture division. Dr. Mor emphasized that such exercise should not be limited to one day and should be part of everyday life. Prof D. Mehta, Coordinator, Centre for Nano science and Nano technology, appreciated the installation of water pots and bird huts. Shri. Arun Bansal, Shri. Navtej Singh, Dr. Anupreet Mavi, Dr. Jeesu and Dr. Amandeep Marwaha coordinated the photo exhibition which was appreciated by one and all.
Enactus team of SSBUICET headed by Prof. Seema Kapoor, Enactus faculty advisor and Coordinator, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan showcased the low cost clay water filters under project Amal-Vari launched by the team on World Environment Day last year. The team acknowledges Enactus Unilever and Mahindra Rise grant for project Amal-Vari. Some filters were bought by Dr. Suman and Dr. Monica on spot and other participants also showed interest in filters. The design of the eco-friendly filter was appreciated by one and all present.
Shri. Punia appreciated the efforts of all and showered his good wishes for the future events. The event concluded at high note where everybody was appreciative towards the environment and ensured to play role for better environment.
