A seminar being organised at village Bare Ke in Ferozepur district for the importance of mother’s feed.

Ferozepur, August 1, 2013: This year’s World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) theme is “Breastfeeding support – close to Mothers” and the first week of the month from 1-7 August, 2013 is being celebrated throughout the world, to create awareness among the mothers.

“The breastfeeding should be started within one hour after the birth of a child and for the first six months, only mother feed should be given”. These views were expressed by Naresh Kumar, In-charge, Food and Nutrition Board, Ludhiana Unit, Govt. of India at the seminar organised at village Bare Ke for the importance of mother’s feed.

He said, “Every year, such seminars are organised by the ICDS to avoid the children from becoming a victim of malnutrition and about 100 workers and group of women participated in this seminar”.

Further speaking on the importance of mother’s feed, Naresh Kmar said, “The newly born child should be started the complementary feeding after the first six months so that the child may not become a victim of malnutrition like disease. It is necessary to give mother’s feed along with the complementary feeding because the mother’s feeding had lot of benefits. Depriving he child from breastfeeding, because of old traditions and superstitions, the child becomes a victim of malnutrition.

On this occasion, a competition of preparation of best recipe was also organised in which about five Anganwadi workers and women from the village participated.

Pawan Kumar, CDPO, “The mortality rate of children can be reduced by making people aware about the importance of breastfeeding by organizing ‘mother meetings’ from time to time”.
