World Book Day celebrated in Ludhiana
Ludhiana, April 23, 2019: Dr S.S.Johl, Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, and Former Vice-Chancellor, PAU along with senior faculty members of Punjab Agricultural University released the poster depicting the importance of books, made by Advocate Harpreet Sandhu on the World Book Day function held in Ludhiana. Chancellor Dr.Johl said “Books have a special place which cannot be replaced in man’s life.” Book writings must have quality and should be brief as brevity is the soul of wit, he added. Dr Johl also shared some of his experiences concerning books and libraries, and cited examples of successful countries which have carved a niche in the field of literature. Mr Harpreet Sandhu, Advocate-Author, stated, “Knowledge being shared through the medium of internet is also the outcome of books.” He further said there was a need to encourage younger generation to discover the pleasure of reading to improve their wisdom, think over subjects of interest, expand their vocabulary, improve their writing skills and update their knowledge and urged that Ludhiana needs to have good book stores. Dr G.K. Sangha, Dean, Postgraduate Studies, spoke on the value and importance of books, and said they are lifeline of knowledge. Prog Gurbhajan Singh Gill, Prof. Anurag Singh, TPS Sandhu, Ravinder Bhattal, President, Punjabi Sahit Academy, Dr Jagdish Kaur, Additional Director Communication, coordinated the programme. Present on the occasion were Dr Navtej Bains, Director of Research; Dr S.S. Kukal, Dean, College of Agriculture; Dr Ashok Kumar, Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology; Dr Sandeep Bains, Dean, College of Home Science; Dr Sandeep Kapur, Comptroller; and other senior officials and faculty of PAU were present during the function today held at PAU Ludhiana.
