Q: Tell us about your character Puppy Beechwale in Sony SAB’s upcoming show Beechwale: Bapu Dekh Raha Hai.

Manoj: In this show, there are two brothers Bobby Beechwale and Puppy Beechwale. I am essaying the role of the younger brother Puppy Beechwale who believes in Mahatma Gandhi’s ideologies because his grandfather fought for freedom alongside Gandhiji (fondly called Bapu). Puppy’s behavior is inspired by the great freedom fighter’s teachings. Before tackling any situation, Puppy always feels that Bapu is watching him. A middle-class salesperson, Puppy has a wife and a son, and comes across different interesting incidents in his day to day life. However, at the end of the day, he has to get back home with a bag full of vegetables.

Q: How is Beechwale different from other shows?

Manoj: Beechwale: Bapu Dekh Raha Hai swings towards reality. Viewers will easily relate to the show because the content is realistic, and nothing is over-exaggerated. It highlights hardships faced by middle class people in their day to day lives through comedy.

Q: Have you faced any middle-class issues in your life?

Manoj: There are many such issues. I hail from Haryana. Once, when I was in the NCC during my college days, a major camp was set up at Hindon Air Force Station. Every cadet had to go through a medical test and police verification for the same and so did I. Surprisingly, the Police officer told me that he did not have the paper for it and asked me to get a whole bundle for him in order to get the verification done. Only middle-class people can face such an issue.

Q: Is there any Gandhi principle that you believe in?
Manoj: Non-Violence is the only Gandhian principle I dedicatedly follow.

Q: How was your experience shooting in Delhi City?

Manoj: I am familiar with Delhi because my drama school is here. It felt great presenting my acting skills in the city where I acquired them. It was fun shooting the initial episodes there and we enjoyed devouring delicacies during our shoot hours. The food in Delhi was amazing and we also had an exceptional team to work with.

Q: Is there any message that you would like to convey to all our viewers?

Manoj: Unless we take the initiative to change ourselves, no one can help us change things. It is ‘we’ who make the rules and regulations and it is our responsibility to follow them with discipline. No one is going to force us to follow these rules. We depend on others to bring a change in our country but in reality, only we can bring about a change. This is my message to all Sony SAB viewers.
