Chief Guests giving awards to students for their posters on the occasion of Walkathon, organised by Sankara Eye Hospital, Ludhiana and Hyatt Regency Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, October 9, 2014: Sankara Eye Hospital, Ludhiana joined hands with Hyatt Regency Ludhiana to organise a  ‘Walkathon’ on  Thursday, on the occasion of World Sight Day. The main objective of conducting Walkathon on World Sight Day was to make aware the general public regarding visual impairment, blindness and lay emphasise on the global theme of this year’s World Sight Day ‘’No more Avoidable Blindness’’.

The Walkathon was flagged off by Ranjodh Singh (Patron of Sankara Eye Hospital and Managing Director, G.S.Auto), S.H.O Arminder Singh, Glenn Peat (G.M-Hotel Hyatt Regency Ludhiana), and Balwinder Singh Bhathal who had gracefully accepted to be the chief guests for the event. The total distance covered during the walk was approximate 2-kms and total 100 people participated in the walkathon. From which60 students were from Sankara College of Optometry and Delhi Paramedical & Management Institute, Ludhiana. The commencing point was opposite Verka Milk Plant via Aggar Nagar and halted at Hyatt Regency Ludhiana. The students enthusiastically participated in the event. They delivered their messages through hand written posters which had been prepared by students themselves. Hyatt Regency Ludhiana was the official partner for food and beverages.

Dr. Anamica Ahuja CAO of Sankara Eye Hospital and Ranjodh Singh Patron of Sankara Eye Hospital and Managing Director, G.S. Auto highlighted the importance of eye care and preventable check-ups to control and eradicate visual impairments and blindness.

Glenn Peat, General Manager – Hyatt Regency Ludhiana said, “We are thankful to Sankara Eye hospital to associate with us in the blindness prevention awareness walkathon and to give a voice to our collective commitment towards eye health. It’s important that people realise that timely intervention can often prevent vision impairment both in short and long term.”
