National Conference for Pharmacotherapeutics begin at DMCH

Ludhiana, January 30, 2014: Second International & 5th National Conference of Indian Society for Rational Pharmacotherapeutics on the theme: Quest for Responsible Use of Medicines started today at DMCH. The conference is supported by Punjab Chapter ISRPT in collaboration with MCI, ICMR and UGC) & accredited by Punjab Medical Council.

Conference Secretary-Dr Sandeep Kaushal (Professor & Head of Pharmacology at DMCH) informed that Indian Society for Rational pharmacotherapeurics (ISRPT) was formed in New Delhi in 2007 by a group of about 20 eminent pharmacologists. The aim of this association is to promote the utilization of clinical pharmacological services in health care delivery, taking decisions regarding drug regulation, organizing scientific meetings, workshops and courses in clinical pharmacology, counteracting misuse of prescription drugs, promoting problem and patient oriented drug information for physicians and promoting high ethical standards in clinical drug research.

 Under the guidance and co-ordination of Dr. SC Chopra and Dr. R Ravendran, two parallel workshops were conducted today on “Pharmacokinetics in Clinical Practice” and “Applications of Biostatistics”. The highlights of the workshop was hands-on training using own laptop and provided patient data. Biostatics workshop was conducted by faculty from JIPMER, Puducherry.

 The workshops were inaugurated by Dr NS Dhalla, a distinguished Professor from Manitoba, USA. He encouraged young people to take up research. Those present on the occasion were Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta, Dean Academics Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, Dr HS Rehan (Secretary, ISRPT),Dr Geeta Sharma (President, ISRPT, Punjab Chapter),Dr Sunil Katyal, Dr Kulwant Singh and Dr Sandeep Kaushal. The souvenir for workshops was released by Dr NS Dalla and other dignitaries.

 In the workshop session on ‘Pharmacokinetics in Clinical Practice’ speakers were Dr SC Chopra and Dr Sandeep Kaushal who spoke on Brief overview of Pharmacokinetic and Dr Kaushal imparted hand-on-training to the participating delagtes.
