VOCATIONAL TRAINING ON PRESERVATION OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES CONCLUDES AT KVK FATEHGARH SAHIB

Ludhiana, May 23, 2017: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehgarh Sahib conducted 5 day Vocational Training programme on Preservation of Fruits and Vegetables for farm women from 15 to 19 May 2017. The programme started with the welcome address by Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal, Deputy Director (Training). He oriented the participants about the need and importance of preserving fruits and vegetables at home. Dr. Manisha Bhatia, Assistant Professor (Home Science) provided information on various aspects of preservation including the selection and storage of food items, importance of maintaining cleanliness in kitchen, food labeling, food adulteration and FSSAI. Demonstrations on preparation of jams such as mango jam, mixed fruit jam, ampapad and pickles such as nimbu pickle, green chillie pickle, mango pickle were given to the participants. Methods of preparing various drinks such as mango fruity, water melon punch and plum punch were also demonstrated. The participants also got hands in experience of preparing ghia rolls, mango chutney and tomato sauce. The participants gained experience from the interactive session of bank representatives Mr. Sanjeev Sharma, DDM, NABARD and Mr. Surinder Bansal, Financial Literacy manager on the role of banks in starting an enterprise. An exposure visit of the participants was organised in Village Badhouchhi Kalan were the participants interacted with the members of SHG in the village who have started small scale enterprise after getting training at KVK. The vocational training programme concluded with the motivation to the trainees to adopt various techniques of preservation to provide healthy and nutritious food to the family members.
