Two policemen arrested for robbery

New Delhi, May 2 (IANS) Two policemen and their two associates were arrested here for kidnapping a courier man and robbing Rs.50 lakh from him, police said Friday.

Surender Kumar Verma, 39, a constable in Haryana Police, Vasudev Prasad, 35, a railway contractor, and Sanjay, 39, were arrested Thursday afternoon near Badarpur in south Delhi.

Raj Bahadur, a Delhi Police constable, was also arrested later.

"Two cars, four mobile phones used in the commission of crime and more than Rs.12 lakh inn cash have been recovered from the possession of the accused," said a police official.

All the arrested men along with two other associates, Manish and Guddu, kidnapped courier man Rishi Chand April 13 and robbed a parcel of Rs.50 lakh from his possession.

Chand, who works for a cargo carrier company, approached police April 22.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav said, "Chand had collected the parcel from New Delhi Railway Station which was sent from Allahabad in Prayag Raj Express train. The parcel contained cartons of mobile phones and cash Rs.50 lakh."

"When he was taking the parcel in a rickshaw, four-five people intercepted him and forcibly took him towards Faridabad in a car along with the parcel. After robbing the cash and other goods, he was abandoned there," he added.
