Training Course On Post-Harvest Techniques Begins At PAU

Ludhiana, June 18, 2015: A two-day training course on “Latest Production and Post-harvest Techniques for Handling of Fruits and Vegetables” began at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. Horticulture Development Officers, District Extension Specialists and scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendras are participating in the course.
Divulging contours, Dr R.S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education said, “The PAU subject-matter specialists will dwell on the production, harvesting and post-harvest technologies for citrus, mango, litchi, guava, ber and muskmelon.” Besides, the trainees will be equipped with the knowledge about management technologies for pear, pomegranate, peach and plum, he added. Further, Dr Sidhu said the experts will also throw light on the scope of vegetable cultivation; processing and preservation of fruits; and latest pest and disease management technologies for the fruit crops. Apart from this, production and post-harvest techniques in onion, brinjal, carrot, French bean, chilli, tomato, potato, pea, garlic, okra, bottlegourd and cole crops will be other focus areas of the experts, he said. Elaborating, Dr Sidhu said the trainees will also be educated about healthy nursery production, vegetable cultivation under low tunnels, hybrid seed production technology and processing and storage of vegetable seeds.
