New Delhi, April 4, 2014 : The Special Judge, CBI case, Saket Courts, New Delhi has convicted  Darshan Singh, then Chief Engineer Department of Power, Itanager (Arunachal Pradesh); his wife Amar Kaur(Private Person) and  Gurmukh Singh (Private Person) in a disproportionate assets case.  Darshan Singh was sentenced to undergo three years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 1,00,000 and Amar Kaur &  Gurmukh Singh both private persons to undergo one year simple imprisonment with fine of Rs. 50,000.

CBI had registered a case against  Darshan Singh and Others under section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988 and 109 of IPC on the allegations that while working in various capacities as public servant during the period 01.01.1991 to 31.12.1997,  Darshan Singh  had acquired assets disproportionate to the tune of Rs. 70,24,630 (approx) in his name and in the name of his family members. The other accused had abetted in the acquisition of disproportionate assets by the public servant.

After investigation, charge sheet was filed in the Court of Special Judge, CBI, Delhi on 29.12.2007 against  Darshan Singh, the then Chief Engineer (Department of Power), Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) under section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988 for possession of assets disproportionate to the tune of Rs. 68,67,146/-(approx) and against his wife & two private persons U/s 109 IPC r/w section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988.

The Trial Court found three accused persons including then Chief Engineer guilty and acquitted one private person.
