Ludhiana, September 10, 2015: To keep a check on Dengue fever, Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajat Agarwal has suggested the parents that their children should wear full sleeve shirts while going to school. He said that if any student does not wear full sleeve shirts then he should apply mosquito repellant cream on his arms and other parts of body. The DC said the Aedes mosquito (which is responsible for dengue fever) is more active during early morning when the students go to school.

The DC said that these steps would help in saving the students from falling prey to Dengue fever. This decision to urge the parents was taken during a high level review meeting related to Dengue fever at the Deputy Commissioner's office last evening.

The Deputy Commissioner also asked the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation to carry out a survey and identify high risk areas. He also asked the officials to launch a war against dengue, malaria besides other vector borne diseases and asked the officials to ensure fool proof preventive and curative measures.

Mr Rajat Agarwal said that collective efforts should be roped in to effectively control Dengue in this season. He stressed upon the need of dry day in a week in which coolers and other appliances should be thoroughly cleaned. He also asked the officials to intensify the surveys in all residential and commercial establishments and if Dengue larvae is found in any of the places, challans should be issued against the owners.

Emphasising on generating more awareness regarding dengue, the DC asked the Civil Surgeon, Rural Development Department, Nehru Yuva Kendra and all other such departments to organise periodic meetings and awareness campaigns in different parts of the rural and urban areas focused on slum areas. He also asked the Education department to organise special awareness campaigns in schools during the morning assembly. He also directed Water Supply and Sewerage Board officials to check water accumulation in all areas of the district and make sure the areas are cleaned.

The DC informed that any Dengue patient coming to Government Hospitals would get totally free treatment for the first 24 hours. He said that for Dengue patients, 12-beds have been earmarked in the Civil Hospital while special wards are also set up in private hospitals. Mr Agarwal directed the Civil Surgeon to make sure all labs carrying out Dengue tests should remain open 24X7. He also directed the private hospitals to maintain travel history of the Dengue patients and submit it with the District Administration and Health Department in the form of a weekly report.

Prominent among those who attended the meeting included ADC Mr Ajay Sood, Civil Surgeon Dr Renu Chhatwal, DEO (Primary) Mr Gurjot Singh, District Public Relations Officer Mr Prabhdeep Singh Nathowal, besides several others.
