Students of minority community get post Matric scholarship  of  Rs.198.61 crore

Chandigarh, April 8, 2016: The Punjab government has disbursed an amount of Rs.198.61 crore amongst 3,14,536 students since 2007-2015, under post matric scholarships being given to the students belonging to the Minority Community.
Disclosing this, an official spokesman of the Welfare department said that Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain and Zoroastrians (Parsis) have been notified as minority communities by the Centre Government. The aim of this scheme is to award scholarships to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of minority community so as to provide them better opportunities for higher education thereby enhancing their chances of employability.
The Spokesman further said that Scholarship will be awarded to those students who have secured not less than 50% marks and the annual income of whose parents/guardian from all sources does not exceed Rs.2.00 lakh. According to the spokesman 30% of scholarship will be earmarked for girl students.
