Jalandhar, March 7, 2015: Women’s Day celebration’s at Kanya Maha Vidyalaya was time to deliberate on the serious women issues in the present day world.  Twenty young girls hailing from almost all the faculties of the college had prepared PPT’s (Power Point Presentations) on gender bias, gender based crimes, traditional gender roles, the evolution of modern women through concept of education and equality of gender.  It was followed by a fruitful discussion on all the gender sensitive issues raised during the power point presentations.  Lyrics from Punjabi songs which degraded girls & women were specially criticised.   They presented women as objects of sexual fulfillment, greedy and opportunistic.  Apoorva  a former KMVite who had come out of serious physical trauma after an accident, with the help of sheer will power was invited and honoured on the occasion.  She thanked KMV her alma-mater for supporting unconditionally in every way during her hour of trial.

The event was organised by women studies centre at KMV.  Dr.Amarpreet Khurana, Co-ordinator of the centre and the participating students were congratulated by Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi who observed that any women-centric issue was very close to the heart of KMV as it had been a nurturing bed of many successful and socially productive Indian women especially from the Northern region. She averred than women from KMV were empowered even during pre-independence era because empowerment comes from within with a rise in the level of awareness about gender issues.
