SpiceJet launches 10 new UDAN flights
GURUGRAM, March 1, 2019: SpiceJet, the country’s favourite carrier, today announced the launch of eight new daily direct flights to the historic city of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. Gwalior, which was bagged by SpiceJet under UDAN III, will be the airline’s 11th destination under the regional connectivity scheme. In addition to the eight new flights to Gwalior, SpiceJet has also announced four new daily flights connecting Bhopal including the Bhopal-Udaipur UDAN flight. These new flights reiterate the airline’s commitment to UDAN and direct connectivity besides on-boarding non-metros and smaller cities onto the national aviation map. Gwalior will be SpiceJet’s 52nd domestic destination. SpiceJet will be the first and the only airline to offer daily direct flights on the Gwalior-Hyderabad-Gwalior, Gwalior-Jammu-Gwalior, Gwalior-Bengaluru-Gwalior and Gwalior-Kolkata-Gwalior sectors. The announcement of the new flights to Gwalior was made at a grand event which was graced by Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Hon’ble Minister of Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India and Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, SpiceJet. The Hon’ble Minister was handed over the first ticket for the Gwalior-Jammu/Hyderabad-Gwalior flight by Mr. Ajay Singh in the presence of other dignitaries thus announcing the new flights to SpiceJet’s 11th UDAN destination. Ajay Singh - CMD, SpiceJet said, “In the last three days, SpiceJet has announced the launch of 16 new UDAN flights reiterating our commitment to providing air connectivity to the smaller towns and cities of India and our steadfast support to the government’s regional connectivity scheme. No airline has ever announced ten new UDAN flights in a day as we do today from this historic city of Gwalior.” “We are committed to taking air services to every corner of India. We see tremendous potential in the routes that we will operate to Gwalior and I am sure that our new flights will provide a major boost to tourism and trade and contribute to the growth story of this landmark state.” SpiceJet’s new flight connecting Bhopal include a daily direct flight on the Bhopal-Udaipur-Bhopal sector thereby connecting one city of lake to another city of lakes, Udaipur, under UDAN. Besides, the airline has also introduced a daily direct flight on the non-RCS sector Chennai-Bhopal-Chennai. With the addition of these new flights from Gwalior, Bhopal and Jharsuguda (announced during the week), SpiceJet will be operating 39 daily flights under the regional connectivity scheme. This is the highest number of flights being operated by any Indian airline under UDAN. SpiceJet had recently added Bhopal as its 50th domestic destination. The airline had introduced 18 direct flight services on the routes of Bhopal-Mumbai, Bhopal-Delhi, Bhopal-Surat, Bhopal-Jaipur, Bhopal-Ahmedabad, Bhopal-Hyderabad and Bhopal-Shirdi. SpiceJet has now further enhanced air connectivity to the capital city of Madhya Pradesh with the addition of two new direct flights.
