Amity University, Haryana had organized a grand talk show on one of the most contemporary and relevant aspects hovering around media’s role, viability and authenticity under the topic of ‘’ Media is the fourth pillar of democracy – ‘a myth or reality. The ethos of the talk show was to discuss the expending role of social media, appended threats upon the print media, changing face of the electronic media, the relevance of objectivity and subjectivity of the media and many more observable paradigm shift in modern days media etc. As media is facing questions about its true existence and relevance, the Amity University Haryana campus has organised a discussion for the students and their parents. An open debate was organized at the institute on the occasion of Media Discussion. The topic of the debate was 'Media, fourth column of democracy - truth or myth' and there were several press journalists present on the forum to participate in the debate. The responsibility of conducting the entire debate was taken by the Head Amity TV and Director of Amity School of Communication Mr Rajiv Mishra. Entering the subject on this occasion, Mr. Mishra asked the senior journalists present, why the readers or the audience losing faith on the media and does media work under pressure? On this issue renowned journalist Ajay Upadhyay said that today's media is running faster than lightning. Obviously, in such a situation, the media is getting a primitive (tribal) tendency by being free from control and every regulation. As a result, the TV program has to listen to the noise instead of the content. What is the truth, do not know but if we believe in the sign, then the audience likes it and for the existence and because of the increase of TRP competition it is necessary also. Senior journalist Rahul Dev attacked the content of the news channels on the stage. He simply said in modern days audience prefer more spices in news than that of pure form of news so, it becomes imperative for the electronic and the print media to cater to their needs. He also stressed that there had not been a golden age for media nor is possible in the days to come. He also pointed towards the prevailing biased ideas in media more preferable in the electronic media. Bhupendra Choubey, Executive Editor of CNN-IBN, involved in the debate panel, denied with media workers as being called celebrity and said that media personnel are also people among you, only the role changes. Mr. Choubey agreed on this matter that the media works under pressure and influence. What else the agenda determines for the media, on this topic there has been a hot debate between Bhupendra and the audience present in the audience gallery. Senior journalist and noted anchor Abhigyan Prakash, talked about the Mojo and preparedness and effectiveness in media. Abhigyan said simply that he believes in the caliber of the persons who handled the arrived news items. He also alleged the anchors and news makers as having their pre- decided agenda hence he had resolved not to watch any news channel. The senior journalist Pooja Sethi, Dainik Jagran while talking about the modern ways of new media had agreed that questioning the reliability of social media is justified. This is the reason why it is being talked about on new law and vigilance. On this occasion, Editor-in-Chief of News24, Anil Singh surprised everyone by saying that if you are really an editor then you will decide without any pressure and influence or vice versa. He shared many of his experiences and said that it cannot be denied that keeping the character of the media alive is a challenge and it depends on who is sitting on the decision-making chair. National Bureau Head of Rajasthan Patrika Mukesh Kejriwal openly discusses the selection and reliability of the news. Mr Kejriwal said that the media house is controlled or operated from three levels. He kept his thoughts in detail on topics like political pressures, business compulsions and daily challenges on the newspaper. The orientation program was a grand success as the fresher and their parents had the chance to meet and interact the CEO’s, Scientists, Veteran Journalists, Movie Stars (Movie promotion of When Obama loves Osama) etc in this four day orientation ceremony.
