Seminar on Guru Granth Sahib

A special Seminar and Discussion on the title ‘The Guru Granth Sahib Project: Suggestions & Possibilities’ was organized by Shabad Vichar Manch-A Forum for Talk Show and Discussion of the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University Chandigarh; collaboration with Sikh Research Institute (USA) and Naam Shabad Foundation. Seminar was started with Shabad Gayan. Chief Guest was Gyani Raghvir Singh, Jatthedar, Shri Akal Takht Sahib and special guest was Baba Sarabjot Singh Bedi and Baba Seva Singh Rampur vale.

Chandigarh, March 28, 2024: A special Seminar and Discussion on the title ‘The Guru Granth Sahib Project: Suggestions & Possibilities’ was organized by Shabad Vichar Manch-A Forum for Talk Show and Discussion of the Department of Guru Nanak Sikh Studies, Panjab University Chandigarh; collaboration with Sikh Research Institute (USA) and Naam Shabad Foundation. Seminar was started with Shabad Gayan. Chief Guest was Gyani Raghvir Singh, Jatthedar, Shri Akal Takht Sahib and special guest was Baba Sarabjot Singh Bedi and Baba Seva Singh Rampur vale.

In his inauguration address, Dr. Sarabjit Singh, Head Punjabi Department PU said that task of Gurbani translation must take very carefully and seriously. The messages of Gurbani must not to be distorting in the translation. He gave various examples from the traditions.

Harinder Singh, Project Lead and Jaswant Singh, content lead of the Foundation, gave a detailed introduction of milestones, achievements and future projects to the audience. Both appealed to the young scholars to take initiative and responsibility of understanding, interpretation and propagation of Guru Bani. The spirit of Guru Bani must spread throughout the world. The Guru Granth Sahib project is worldwide online web based programme dedicated to the preservation, conservation and propagation of the Guru Bani. 

In the second session, which was a panel discussion, Prof. Bheem Inder Singh, Prof. H S Bedi, Prof. Sarabjit Singh, Dr. Manjinder Singh, Dr. Navjot Kaur, Jaswant Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Baljit Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Dr. S P Singh, Sant Baba Hari Singh Randhawe wale expressed their views. Panel was chaired by Prof. Manpreet Singh, Vice Chancellor, Chandigarh University Mohali. Chief Guest was Dr. Sarabjit Singh, Dean, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

In Seminar, Dr. Jaspal Kaur Kaang, former head Punjabi Dept CDOE, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur,        Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Sukhwinder Singh and Many scholars, guests and students participated in the discussion. At the end, Dr. Gurpal Singh, Academic Incharge of the department gave a vote of thanks.
