Nawanshahr, May 20, 2014: After successfully meeting its expenditure target of MGNREGA worth Rs 109 crore during year 2013-14, the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar District has now set a target of Rs 25 crore for current fiscal 2014-15 under MGNREGA Funds so that maximum number of Job Card Holders could get employment as well as contributing rural development.
Divulging the details here today, Deputy Commissioner Cum District Project Co-ordinator MGNREGA Anindita Mitra said that with the successful completion of target another feather has been added to the SBS Nagar. She said that a total of 3,07,668 man days were produced previous year which helped 7.996 Job Card Holders to get employment under MGNREGA, in the district. Apart from that, 668 job card holders got 100 days employment out of these working MGNREGA labourers, she added. Similarly, a total of 526 works were under taken under MGNREGA out of which 120 were completed. Listing the works started under MGNREGA, she told that construction of 20 Rajiv Gandhi Sewa Kendras (4 Completed), Cleanliness of village ponds, Rural Connectivity, Flood Control Arrangements, Plantation, Land Levelling, Maintenance of Road Burms and Cleanliness of Canals were among the number of works.
She further told that to meet the current fiscal target, a meeting of line departments had been called by Additional Deputy Commissioner Cum Additional Project Coordinator Amarjit Paul for drafting 'Convergence Road Map' for the district under MGNREGA. The road map would include Rajeev Gandhi Sewa Kendras, Fish Ponds, Construction of Anganwari Kendras, Plantation, Land Levelling, Strengthening of bandhs/Canal banks, Agriculture related activities etc.
Elaborating further, Paul said that there was a scope of construction of building of 20 anganwari kendras for which concerned panchayats are ready to contribute financially apart from earmarking piece of land voluntarily. To complete the task, rest of amount to be bore with MGNREGA so that works to be completed in time, he went on add. He told that all the line departments had been asked to draft a proposal so that requisite funds to be released after completing all formalities.
