Jalandhar, October 16, 2015: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-The Heritage Institution, Jalandhar organised an address by Mrs Sarojini Gautam Sharda, Divisional Commissioner, Excise and Taxation, Jalandhar. The thrust of her interaction was the “Smart City Status” being awarded to Jalandhar city. After showing video clippings she made a presentation on the concept of smart city. She invited the suggestions of all present and also wanted to know what their expectations for  a smart city were. The students and faculty members shared their views and also showed concern on issues like garbage & litter, encroachments, safety and security, stray animal menace and so on and so forth. This interaction according to Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi provided all the listeners with an opportunity to think. She averred that smart mindsets are the need of the hour. This can be instrumental in creating Smart Cities. Prof. Atima further maintained the sanctuaries and places to sit, relax and unwind need to be created in cities like Jalandhar. Mrs. Sarojini Gautam Sharda responded to all the suggestions and queries of the students with keen interest. She maintained that this initiative to invite the views of all the citizens was a step towards inclusion of the collective vision in taking steps towards the formation of Jalandhar as the smart city. Mrs. Ashoo Bajaj, Head of Physical Education, Dr. Madhumeet, Dean Student Welfare & Dr. Kamaljit, Head Dept. of Music were also present on this occasion.
