Union Minister of State Vijay Sampla administers oath to fight back drugs at Zira on Sunday.
Zira, April 26, 2015: Expressing concern over the rising problem of drug addiction in Punjab, Union Minister of State Vijay Sampla urged all the political parties, irrespective of their political affiliations, to join hands and help shaping a new drug-free Punjab instead of playing politics on this grave issue. He said that drug addiction has not only brought a bad name to the state world over but the parents of the drug addicts were also forced to live a life full of humiliations.
Addressing a vast gathering here today organized by the Chairman Punjab INFOTEC and senior BJP activist Manjeet Singh Rai in collaboration with Joshi Foundation Chandigarh to eradicate the problem of drug addiction/abuse, Sampla said that appropriate efforts and stern actions were required to check this menace without taking any political advantage out of this highly sensitive issue. He called upon the people in general to be a part of the social movement against drugs giving a befitting rebuff to the drug addiction as efforts of the government alone were not enough to tackle this social threat.
Addressing the gathering Chairman Joshi Foundation and Assistant Media Advisor to Punjab government, Vineet Joshi said that it was a matter of grave concern that Punjab, a land of saints and seers was being projected as a Drug state damaging its basic socio-cultural fabric across the world. He suggested that to actively tackle this menace, a well organized joint campaign involving the families, society at large and the government was the need of an hour.
Referring to the Lalkar Rally of Capt. Amarinder Singh at Amritsar especially organized to express his “concern” on the serious issue, Joshi termed it not more than a “political fight” to malign Punjab. He also said that to save the youth falling prey at the hands of drugs, the parents and the families of the drug addicts should understand the magnitude of the drug addiction as a problem and pay adequate attention to the activities of their children.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Punjab INFOTEC Manjeet Singh Rai said that besides introducing various schemes for the youth, Prime Minister Narender Modi has launched an encouraging Pension Scheme for the farmers. BJP was perhaps the only party where the respect of the workers was supreme. Sampla also administered oath to fight back drugs to the people present on the occasion.
Prominent amongst others who were present included District BJP Chief Jugraj Singh, Vice President Bheem Singh, Nirvair Singh Uppal, Suba Singh, Gurcharan Singh and Baldev Singh Bhatti.
