Narangwal (Ludhiana), May 7, 2016: A memorial in the memory of freedom fighter Bhai Randhir Singh is being set up by Punjab Government at Narangwal village in Ludhiana district. The work of its construction has reached at the final stage.

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal would shortly dedicate this memorial to the Nation.

Bhai Randhir Singh had spent 16 precious years of his life in different jails during the freedom struggle.

Ravi Bhagat, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana visited the site today, to review the ongoing work of construction of this memorial. During his visit, the deputy commissioner gave necessary directions to the concerned officers and contractors involved in construction of this memorial.

On this occasion, the deputy commissioner told that Bhai Randhir Singh was born at Narangwal village.

In view of the freedom fighter’s great contribution for the Nation, Punjab Government had decided to set up a memorial in his memory at Narangwal village (on the Gujjarwal road).

The state government is spending Rs.1.50 crore on the setting-up of this memorial.

The villagers had donated 1.75 acres of land for this memorial.

A 60-ft high minaret has been raised in the premises of this under-construction memorial. This high-rise minaret is visible even in the nearby villages.

The memorial will also house a library, a museum, reception, lawn with excellent landscaping, beautiful entrance and other attractive construction works.

The memorial will exhibit about the life and struggle of the freedom fighter.

The deputy commissioner told that the memorial would prove to be a source of inspiration for the next generations.
It may be mentioned here that a locality (Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar) in Ludhiana city is already named after Bhai Randhir Singh.

The foundation stone of the memorial was laid by the then Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal in 2011.

The deputy commissioner said that 90 per cent of the construction work of the memorial has already been completed. The remaining work will be completed in next 10-15 days.

The maintenance of the memorial will be done by Bhai Randhir Singh Yadgaari Trust.
