Jalandhar, November 12, 2015: Senior Congress leader and Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh has demanded immediate replacement of the fire tenders in Kapurthala Nagar Council, which he said were old and outdated.
Rana, during his visit to a factory owned by Pradeep Oberoi, which was gutted in fire last night, said, the fire tenders took time to start as one is 1985 made and another 1992. He regretted that for emergency services there were outdated vehicles which take time even to start, leave aside extinguishing the fire.
The Congress legislator said, he was told that the fire tenders did not have any reserve water and they have to fill their tanks at a distance of about four kilometres. “This is ridiculous that they fill the water after learning about the fire and by the time they reach the spot everything is finished and razed to the ground”, he said, while pointing out, same thing happened during yesterday’s fire.
He blamed the local Nagar Council officials for the laxity in duty that led to loss of goods worth over Rs 50 lakhs. He has demanded compensation for the affected persons.
