RADIUM BELTS ON STRAY CATTLE TO CURB MISHAPS IN LUDHIANA

LUDHIANA, APRIL 30, 2018: In order to save precious lives and bring down number of mishaps in city, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Ludhiana Police in association with Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) have started a unique initiative of tying radium belts around the necks of stray cattle which is one major reason behind accidents.

District and Sessions Judge Gurbir Singh, who is also DLSA chairman, started the drive on Monday. On the occasion, CJM-cum- DLSA secretary Dr.Gurpreet Kaur, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gurdev Singh, OBC Manager GS Chawla, FICO Chief Gurmeet Singh Kular, and others were also present.

Addressing an event at Bachat Bhawan, District and Sessions Judge Gurbir Singh said that cattle wandering on roads are one of the major cause of accidents which claim precious lives. He informed that in our country, one person dies in every four-minute and 15 lives are lost in Punjab every day due to accidents.

He also mentioned that several cases went unreported in which people get injured.

The DLSA Chairman claimed by creating awareness and controlling stray cattle menace, 50percent road mishaps can be reduced.

He said that during the drive, radium belts would be tied around necks of the cattle so that they can be easily visible to the commuters and the department of animal husbandry would have a responsibility to cover all stray cattle.

He stated these radium belts are available in the offices of DLSA, OBC Branch Feroze Gandhi Market, Animal Husbandry office at Zone-A MC building from where any social organization or individual can come forward to contribute into this drive.

He also asked gathering to follow traffic norms besides detailed elaboration of Motor Vehicle Act.

ACP Gurdev Singh gave information about traffic awareness week which is being celebrated from April 23 to 30. He said that we all can save precious lives by obeying traffic rules on roads in Ludhiana.
