Punjabi comedian Mehar Mittal dies; Capt Amarinder condoles death

Chandigarh, October 22, 2016: Punjab Congress President Capt Amarinder Singh has condoled the sad demise of renowned Punjabi actor, comedian and producer Mehar Mittal.

Describing the death of the Dada Saheb Phalke award winner as a major loss not only for the bereaved family but also the Punjabi entertainment industry, Capt Amarinder Singh stated that Mittal's contribution to the Punjabi film industry was immense. Expressing his heartfelt condolences, Captain Amarinder said in a statement here, "I pray for peace for the departed soul."

Eighty-year-old Mittal, who had been ailing for the last several days, breathed his last in Braham Kumari Ashram in Mount Abu today. He was earlier undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ahmadabad. Mittal was cremated on Saturday afternoon.

Born in Bathinda in 1935, Mittal had worked in over 100 Punjabi films from 1974 till 1998. He was awarded for his selfless, devoted and inspiring services as a cine artist in Punjabi films at Dadasaheb Phalke Academy at the 136th Dadasaheb Phalke Jayanti in Mumbai.
