Players in action during the 31st Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament played at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium at Jalandhar on Thursday.

 

Jalandhar, November 6, 2014: Battle lines for the semi finals of the 31st Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament have been drawn today at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here.

In Semi Finals Holders Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi will take on Army XI and Punjab XI (Pakistan) will cross swords with Indian Oil Mumbai on 8 November.

In today’s men section last league matches Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi and CAG Delhi locked horns with 3-3 draw, both team earned one point each. In second match Punjab XI (Paksitan) beat ONGC Delhi by 3-1 to enter semis.

In Women section Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala will clash swords with Haryana XI, which reserve their berth in finals on better goal average from Punjab XI. Today Haryana XI beat Rest of Pakistan by 5-0.  women’s finals will be played on 7thNovember at 5-00 PM.

In Men section in Pool D’s last league outings Holders Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi and CAG Delhi displayed good hockey. In the 6th minute of the play Bankmen took lead with field goal from the stick of Gurinder Singh (1-0). In the 18th minute of the play Bank’s Vikramjit Singh converted the first penalty corner to consolidate (2-0). In  the

30th minute of the play CAG Delhi mounted the pressure and earned penalty corner their Chandan Singh reduced the margin by netting the ball (1-2). At half time Bank was leading by 2-1.

In second half ‘s 47th minute CAG Delhi earned the penalty corner. Their Chandan Singh once again scored to equalize from the rebound of the goal keeper (2-2).  In the 47th minute of the play CAG’s Chandan Singh scored his third goal for his team, to take lead (3-2). Two minutes later Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi equalized with field goal of Prabhdeep Singh from right flank (3-3).

With this draw Both teams splitted one point each. Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi earned 4 points from two league outings where as CAG earned two points from two outings. 

In the last league match of men section in Pool C Punjab XI ( Pakistan ) and ONGC Delhi displayed good game. In the 8th minute of the game Punjab XI Pakistan’s Olympian Waqas scored the goal from left flank (1-0). At half time Pakistan was leading by 1-0.

In the second half’s 36th minute Pakistan ’s Waqas scored second goal for his team from the pass of Dogar (2-0). In 52nd minute International star Diwakar Ram converted the penalty corner for ONGC (1-2). In the dying minutes of the match Pakistan ’s Toseeq converted the penalty corner (3-1).  

In the last match of the Women’s Round Robin League matches Haryana-XI entered in to finals with better goal average. Haryana girls defeated Rest of Pakistan by 5-0. Punjab-XI and Haryana-XI earned 4 points each from three outings each.

Though in the Pakistani girls lost this match by 5-0, but today their exhibited good hockey, well coordination but for their poor finishing, they failed to score.  The Haryana girls were leading by 3-0 at half time and the scorer were Pritam Siwach (2), Jyoti , Devika and Preetin one goal each. Earlier Mr. Tarlok Singh Bhullar, former Olympic Umpire was the chief guest during the match.
