PUNJAB STATE TAKES A LEAP -- LAUNCHES STROKE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME IN JALANDHAR & PATIALA

Chandigarh, October 3, 2016: Punjab state has launched pilot project of Stroke Management Services at Government Medical College, Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, and Civil Hospital, Jalandhar last week. This was revealed here today by Ms. Vini Mahajan, Principal Secretary, Health Punjab while adding that Government of Punjab is committed to provide state of the art healthcare services to its people. The programme achieved a major milestone yesterday with the first patient getting free treatment costing worth more than Rs 40,000/- at the Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. The patient, a 55 year male, suffered from stroke symptoms at 5.00 pm. He was brought to the emergency department of Rajindra Hospital, Patiala at 5.20 PM. After the medical workup he was promptly thrombolysed at 7.25 PM, well within the golden hour. Patient is reported to be recovering fast. Ms. Vini Mahajan told that the successful thrombolysis of the patient at Rajindra Hospital, Patiala would boost the confidence of the doctors all over the State for such a procedure and this would help the department to reduce disability and deaths due to Stroke. She lauded the doctors of Rajindra Hospital, Patiala for the successful treatment of the patient.
