Punjab SC Commission seeks uniform fee structure in educational institutions

Chandigarh, March 20, 2015: Chairman Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes has vociferously put up a demand before the Punjab Government to constitute a high level committee to finalise the fee structure applicable for the SC students in all private/government colleges and universities in the state.
Chairman of Commission Rajesh Bagha today called on the Chief Secretary Sarvesh Kaushal and presented before him the various issues concerning the SC population of the state. Bagha also recommended framing a policy for the SC entrepreneurs of the state so that they could fetch the cost effective and level playing field in the industrial circles. During the deliberations it was also recommended that the virtues of the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme should reach the downtrodden and for this purpose the state government has to adopt a proactive approach. He said that it is matter of great pride that this scheme is being implemented in Punjab successfully and the credit for its success goes to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Bagha proposed that a committee to review the disbursement of grants under this Post Matric scholarship scheme should be constituted to ensure the uniform and justifiable distribution of the grants among the beneficiaries. He said that efforts should be made to persuade the principals and teachers of educational institutions to implement the scheme in true spirit.
After hearing the issues pertaining to SC community in the state, Chief Secretary Sarvesh Kaushal showered high praise upon for his selfless and tireless efforts for the all round development and upliftment of weaker sections. He also assured that the demands will be considered sympathetically with prompt action.
