Punjab notifies regional and town planning & development board

Chandigarh, June 20, 2014: The Punjab Government has notified the ‘Punjab Regional and Town Planning & Development Board’. This board will look after the issues relating to Master Plans/Regional Plans. Punjab Chief Minister would be the chairman of the board.
It was disclosed by an official spokesperson of Housing and Urban Development Department. He said as the board is loaded with onerous duties, therefore, in order to expedite the disposal of the cases being referred to the board and to ensure efficient discharge of functions, an ‘Executive Committee’ has also constituted, In which, Chief Secretary, Punjab has been inducted as Chairman, while Financial Commissioner, Revenue, Principal Secretary to CM, Secretary/Principal Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Secretary/Principal Secretary, Rural Development & Panchayat, Secretary/Principal Secretary, Local Government, Secretary/Principal Secretary, Environment, Secretary/Principal Secretary, PWD (B&R), Secretary/Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Secretary/Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development would be the member of the committee. He said that Director, Town and Country Planning would be the Convener Member of the committee.
He further said that the Executive Committee has assigned the duty to grant approval to the Administrative Department for minor amendments of Master Plans/Regional Plans to be notified for the information of general public under 77 or 65 as the case may be and to grant approval to the Administrative Department for ‘major amendments of Master Plans/Regional Plans for publication in newspaper for inviting objections from general public under section 76 or 66 as the case may be. However, in both of the aforesaid situations, the cases shall be presented before the Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Board for its ex-post facto approval. He said that the final power to approve amendments in Master Plan/Regional Plan would be that of the Board.
