Kapurthala, September 11, 2013: Punjab Government has provided financial assistance of Rs 2 Crore 44 lac 67 thousand in the district to 266 patients. Disclosing this here today Daljit Singh Mangat Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala said that total 276 applicants applied for relief under Mukh Mantra Cancer Relief Fund Scheme till date. He said that only 10 patients are left and they would also be provided financial aid soon from CM Cancer Relief Fund.

He said that the Punjab Government has empanelled hospitals for Cancer Treatment under Mukhmantri Cancer Rahat Kosh Scheme and these hospitals have been instructed to purchase Cancer Treatment drugs on the Rate Contract finalised by the department for the treatment of patients getting assistance under Mukhmantri Cancer Rahat Kosh.

Mangat said that the patients who are not covered under the Mukhmanri Cancer Rahat Kosh or who have already availed assistance under the scheme and now getting treatment at their own expenses, for them these drugs are made available on subsidised rates  at Jan Aushadhi Stores.

He said that Punjab Government is providing Cancer treatment drugs at very low cost to the patients as it has been observed that for most of the cancer treatment drugs there is a huge difference between market rates and rates approved in Rate Contract. He added that Punjab Government is providing most of the cancer treatment drugs at 70% to 80% lesser than the MRP.

Deputy Commissioner said that Rs. 1.5 lac are provided as financial aid to the Cancer patients under CM Cancer Relief Fund Scheme. He added that BPL families could also avail this facility from Nirogi Society. He said that Health & Family Welfare department has launched a special campaign to identify the cancer patients at early stage and in the district Kapurthala more than 1.60 lac houses were surveyed. He said that during the survey symotoms of Cancer were found in 2878 people out of which 821 were identified as cancer patients.
