Punjab modifies Medicity and IT Policies for providing plots to business enterprises

Chandigarh, March 17, 2015: The Punjab Government has modified its Medicity Policy regarding allotment of land/plots for multi-speciality hospitals, medical university/college-cum-hospital and medical research centres in the Medicity in New Chandigarh. Besides, State has also amended its IT Policy to setup IT services, ITES bio-technology and research and development facilities in IT City SAS Nagar.
According to an official spokesman the detailed policy in this regard had been approved by Punjab cabinet to give a fillip to business ventures in Medicity and IT City under "Invest Punjab" initiatives. He said Medicity would be country’s one of the largest place of bio-technology and healthcare solutions.
He informed that more than 260 acres of land has been earmarked for this purpose in New Chandigarh where 100 acres would be utilised for setting up of world class multi-speciality hospitals, medical university/medical college cum hospital and medical research centre. He said world class infrastructure and commercial activities would be ensured on remaining area.
Spokesman further said the government has also modified its IT policy for allotment of land/plots to provide environment for IT services, bio-technology (non-polluting) and technology based non-polluting, research and development facilities in IT City SAS Nagar.
He said the ruling alliance is all set to make Punjab IT hub of the country like Bengaluru. He emphasised that for this purpose IT units on large scale were being setup in IT city by multinational companies. He said this would generate more skilled employment and would help to realise the dream of Punjab for evolving as IT hub.
