Punjab Government to set up Inspection and Certification centre of vehicles at Kapurthala

Chandigarh, April 21, 2015: The Punjab Government would establish an inspection and certification centre of vehicles (Authorized Testing Station) at Kapurthala. For this purpose, 3 acres of land of Transport Department has also been allotted.

Disclosing this here today, Transport Minister, Punjab, Ajit Singh Kohar said that according to the estimate prepared by the PWD Department, on the basis of civil work drawings made by Architecture Department, a complete project report has been sent to the central government for approval.

The Minister also said that the central government would contribute approx. Rs. 14.40 crore for for this project and with this monetary grant, Building of institute, Testing Lens, Parking and Workshop would be constructed.

He also said that on the completion of this institute, it would have the facility of examining documents under visual inspection to issue fitness certificates to three wheelers, light commercial vehicles, medium and heavy transport vehicles. Divulging more details the Minister said that this centre would have the visual testing facility of legal documents, insurance, registration, steering play, chassis/frame inspection, c.n.g./l.p.g. inspection, fuel tank and piping inspection, exhaust pipe inspection, catalatic converter inspection, engine mounting, battery terminal and mounting, seat belt, tyres, lighting and signaling, oil leakage, leaf spring and shock absorbers, wind screen, wiper and doors, high security registration plates, high security registration plates. The Minister also said that under auto-mated inspection brake test, speedometer test, head light test, side slip test, suspension test would be carried out.

He informed that under emission inspection, for diesel vehicles free excellension teasel with opacity metre and for petrol/c.n.g./l.p.g. vehicles idle test with four gas analyser tests would be carried out.

The Minister further elaborated that the issue of approval of funds for the State Government by the Central Government would be considered in the review meeting to be held during this fiscal by the Ministry of Road Transport. In this institute in 1 year on per lane per shift basis 20000 light vehicles and approx. 13000 heavy vehicles would be inspected.
