PUNJAB Government directs authorised transport companies to strictly follow safety norms while plying school buses

Chandigarh, July 19, 2013: with a view to ensuring the complete security and safety to the school children the Punjab government has directed the authorized transport companies plying school buses to make sure the enforcement of safety guidelines issued by the state government while plying school buses. Any kind of laxity while handling the school children would not be tolerated. Strict action would be initiated against the driver as well as the transport company. The offence would attract cancellation of their licenses’.

Stating this here today a spokesman of the government said that it was unfortunate that due to accidents and negligence in driving every year 4 thousand persons lose their lives in Punjab. Taking serious note of the fatal incidents, the Punjab government has also directed the Transport Authorities to ensure the fitness of the vehicles and directed them to be strict in keeping a vigil on the regulation of speed of the vehicles on roads. The divers should be fully trained and carrying the complete papers while moving out.

The spokesman further said that the government has also directed the buses and auto rickshaw owners not to take school students’ beyond the allowed capacity of the vehicle. The erring owners would have to face severe action even the cancellation of their work permit, he added.
