Dharamsala, August 11, 2013: The residents of Tihra Lines villager near Dharamsala, (near Dalai Lama’s residence of McLeodganj) who were rendered homeless after a massive landslide struck the village a couple of days back , were shifted to the government houses nearby  till their rehabilitation on Sunday.

Urban Development Minister and Local MLA, Shudhir Sharma said this on Sunday in Dharamsala, “We have handed over the keys of government houses to the affected families,” said Sharma addressing a press conference after visiting the spot.

The minister ,who was also the local MLA, visited the landslide site on Sunday , handed over the keys of government houses to the displaced families.

He said that all the 26 families would be housed in government houses in Dharamsala till they construct new houses. The affected families were allotted government houses in power colony in Darnu village and reserve pool houses of the district administration.

Presently, the affected families were staying in the quarters provided to them by Indian Army while their belongings were lying in open sheds in the Central School premises.

Sudhir said that the each affected families will be given Rs. 3 lakh as relief grant.

“The administration has identified land in Khaniara village near Dharamsala town and case for allotment will be sent to the government very soon,” said Sharma adding that government will also provide financial help to the victims for construction of new houses.

He said the displace families had expressed desire to settle at one place and adequate land for the purpose was available at Khaniyara only.

The allotment of government houses shall come as big relief for the displaced families as it would provide them permanent settlement place till their new houses were constructed.

It may be recalled that a massive landslide had struck the Tihra Lines after the hill on which the village is situated caved in on August 7 mornings. The landslide swept away Army quarters and cause damaged the houses of the local people.
