Chandigarh, July 10, 2015: Aiming to encourage girl students for getting higher academic credentials, the Punjab government through Punjab Backward Classes Land Development and Finance Corporation (BACKFINCO) will provide education loan to them at 3.5% interest pet annum.
Giving details of the scheme launched mainly for the girl students of weaker sections, the Chairman of BACKFINCO, Mr. Om Parkash Kamboj said the new education scheme aimed at providing an opportunity to the girls of backward classes to get higher education with a view to raise their socio-academic status.
The newly appointed Chairman Mr. Kamboj further said girls from backward classes and residents of Punjab are eligible to get the education loan. "Concerned district field officers of BACKFINCO have been instructed to forward the case of the eligible students so as to complete the formalities in time", he informed.
Adding further he said that to make girls self reliant, the state would provide Rs. 10 lakh as loan to the girls for imparting training in technical and vocational course whereas Rs. 20 Lakh loan to be provided to them for getting such training oversees.
It may be mentioned here that according to the latest census in Punjab, 12% population belonging to backward classes has been provided direct loan ranging from Rs.50,000 to 1 lakh to start their own venture. Mr Kamboj revealed that a massive campaign throughrout the State would also be launched by BACKFINCO to generate awareness among youth in the next month. He said during the last fiscal as many as 931 candidates were imparted vocational training.
