Ludhiana, April 23, 2015: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today described the sad incident of suicide by the farmer at the Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on Wednesday as the most ‘unfortunate and shocking’ which should have never been happened.

Talking to the media persons on the sidelines of a social function, the Chief Minister said that this incident must be thoroughly got inquired from the appropriate agency so as to ascertain the circumstances and causes which led to the hapless farmer to end his life. 

Replying to another query on the ongoing procurement of Wheat, the Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s firm commitment to lift the entire wheat crop of the farmers from the mandis at prevalent Minimum Support Price. He also categorically said that farmers would not be allowed to suffer on the account of value cut imposed by the GoI rather this would not be passed on to the farmers in any case. Expressing solidarity with the beleaguered peasantry, the Chief Minister said, “Why the farmers for none of their fault should be penalized, rather it was the nature’s fury in terms of unseasonal rains and hailstorms which damaged their golden crop”.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, his Advisor Maheshinder Singh Grewal, MLAs Manpreet Singh Ayali, SS Kaler and Ranjit Singh Dhillon besides Vice Chairman Punjab State Planning Board Rajinder Bhandari.
