Punjab Breaking News- PLSA settles 3,26,348 cases in National Lok Adalat

Chandigarh, December 7, 2014: Under the able guidance of Justice T.S.Thakur, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority and under the Leadership of Justice S.S.Saron, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, Punjab Legal Services Authority, National Lok Adalat was organized yesterday in the state and total 3,26,348 cases were settled and a sum of Rs. 6,11,00,17,765 had been awarded and settled in the disposed of cases.
A spokesperson of Punjab Legal Services Authority (PLSA) today said that a total number of 696 Benches were formed in Punjab. He said that 4,12,581 cases were referred in the National Lok Adalat out of which 3,26,348 cases were settled and a sum of Rs. 6,11,00,17,765 had been awarded and settled in the disposed of cases.  Prior to this, a total of 15,70,319 cases had been settled in  8544 Lok Adalats and a sum of Rs. 43,44,24,25,423 had been awarded/settled.
He further said that in this Lok Adalat various types of cases were taken up for their amicable settlement, which included Criminal Compoundable Cases, Negotiable Instrument Act cases u/s138, Motor Accident Claim Tribunal  cases, Matrimonial/family courts cases, Labour disputes, Civil cases, Rent, Bank recovery, Tribunal cases, Revenue cases, MNREGA, Electricity And Water Bills (excluding theft cases), Tax matters, Salary, Allowances and Retirement benefits, Forest Act cases, Cantonment Boards maters, Railway Claims,  Cases pending in the High Court, Pre-litigation matters.
He said that apart from Judicial Courts, Quasi Judicial Bodies including the Revenue, Taxation and Cooperative Departments also participated for disposing of the cases in the National Lok Adalat.        “After the disposal of a case in the Lok Adalat no appeal can be filed and the litigation is finished forever.  If the Court Fee is paid at the time of filing of the case the same is refunded to the party after the settlement of the case in the Lok Adalat” he said.
The spokesperson said that apart from the National Lok adalat, Lok Adalat is held on the last working Saturday of the month in the entire State of Punjab.  He appealed people to take benefit by getting their cases disposed of amicably in the Lok Adalats and people can contact on Toll Free No. 1968 or can contact the Secretary, District Legal Services Authority in their District.
