The Governor of Punjab, Haryana and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki presiding over Joint meeting of the General Body & Executive committee of Child Welfare Council at Punjab Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.

Chandigarh, April 27, 2016: Strongly advocating the need for enlarging the boundaries of care, compassion and concern for ensuring survival, growth and development of needy children, the Governor of Punjab, Haryana and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Prof.Kaptan Singh Solanki called for strengthening institutional mechanism, support structure and monitoring system of the State Level Child Welfare Council and the district council to carry out their social initiatives and character of obligations effectively.
Expressing these views while presiding over the Joint meeting of the General Body & Executive committee of Child Welfare Council, Punjab, here today, Prof. Solanki said that our children are assets and the future of our nation and it is our collective responsibility to identify and develop their potential through well orchestrated child care programmes.
Discussing various issues at length it has been decided that fee of life members should remain the same that is rupees one thousand. He asked all the members to put in extra efforts to generate more funds for the welfare of the children.
Lauding the role of all members, the Governor said you have been doing a very important duty towards children and future generations. He emphasized the need for implementing various programmes, already in place with the focus of eradication of child labour, female foeticide and drug addiction, and imparting them quality education in our educational institutions. He said that the problem of child care is a global one and we have a series of programmes in our economic and social development plans and that the need is to speed up their implementation through commitment and hardwork.
Expressing his serious concern over the deteriorating health status of children with deficiency of mal-nutrition, anemia, dental, skin and eye problems, especially in rural areas, Prof. Solanki called for involving a constant health check programme of school children with follow up monitoring system by medical teams to provide necessary treatment. Besides, he said necessary steps should be taken to ensure a balanced diet, rich in iron, vitamins and minerals.
Prof. Solanki also honoured district councils that is Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur for raising funds for the Child welfare Council including contribution by individual members. District Council Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur were also honoured for hosting Children's Day celebration.
Prominent among others who were present on the occasion Mr. M.P. Singh, Principal Secretary to Governor, Mrs Vini Mahajan, Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, Mr. G. Vijralingam, Principal Secretary Education, Dr. B.N.S. Walia, Chairman and Dr. Mrs Pritam Sandhu, Secretary Child Welfare Council Punjab, Director Health Services, Executive Members, co-opted members and district council.
