CHANDIGARH, May 21, 2017: In a major development that will provide super specialist treatment and medical care to poor patients, specialist and super-specialist doctors from leading medical institutions in the state will start treating patients in the government and civil hospitals in Punjab.

This was disclosed by the Minister for Health and Medical Education Brahm Mohindra here today, after holding meetings with the management of the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital Ludhiana and the Christian Medical College Ludhiana.

The minister disclosed that he had urged the DMC and CMC management to spare specialist and super-specialist doctors, at least once a week who will treat the patients coming to the government hospitals.

The Secretary Managing Committee of the DMC Prem Gupta assured the minister that doctors from all the super specialist faculties will be deputed in the Civil Hospital and wherever required once a week.

Similarly, Dr Abraham Thomas, the Director CMC, Ludhiana also agreed to the proposal and assured the minister that he will make available the services of the specialist and super specialist doctors in the Civil and Government Hospitals.

Mohindra said, the super specialists from the departments of cardiology, neurology, oncology, endocrinology, gastroenterology and others will be available in the Civil Hospitals. While the programme will start from Ludhiana, it will be extended all over the state, the minister said.

The minister disclosed that as part of the government’s agenda to provide affordable medical treatment to common people, particularly to those who cannot go to the private hospitals, he had been working out arrangements with leading medical institutions across the state to spare their specialist and super-specialist doctors for government hospitals.

Mohindra thanked Secretary DMC Managing Committee, Prem Gupta and the CMC Director, Dr Thomas for instantly agreeing to his proposal and making available the services of the doctors for government hospitals. The programme is likely to be launched in the month of June, the minister added.
