Chandigarh, April, 2017: In Haryana, possibilities would be explored for introducing Automated Guideway Transit System in Gurugram, apart from Karnal and Faridabad, which are to be developed as Smart Cities. Initially, Detailed Project Report of any road would be prepared for introducing the system. This was disclosed at a meeting held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, with members of a delegation from Japanese company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited, in New Delhi, today. Reiterating the commitment of the state government to providing quality high-speed transport system to the people of Haryana, the Chief Minister ordered officers to have studies done for exploring the possibilities of introducing the Automated Guideway Transit System in Gurugram, Karnal and Faridabad. Giving detailed information about the Automated Guideway Transit System, members of the delegation said the system had been successfully introduced in several countries and was considered a better option as compared to Metro Rail as the cost of construction and operation of the automated system was considerably lower. Those present at the meeting included Public Works (Buildings and Roads) Minister, Rao Narbir Singh, Chief Secretary, Mr. D.S. Dhesi, Principal Resident Commissioner, Haryana Bhawan, New Delhi, Mr. Anand Mohan Sharan, Principal Secretary, Town and Country Planning Department, Mr. Arun Kumar Gupta, and Commissioner, Gurugram, Mr. D. Suresh. The Japanese delegation included Chairman, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries India, Mr. Masayuki Kubo, Senior General Manager, Mr. Sanjay Mundley, General Manager, Mr. Kazunovi Konishi, Founder Chairman, Virgo Group, Mr. Kanwal Monga and Director, Mr. Kanav Monga, and Mr. Miyake from the Japanese Embassy.
