Ludhiana, March 11, 2016: PCTE Institute of Hotel Management organized 3rd International Hospitality & Tourism Conclave on "Social, Political and Economic Risk in Tourism” at its campus. Her Excellency Ms.Monica Lanzetta Mutis, Ambassador of Colombia to India was the Guest of Honor to the event.
H.E. Ms. Monica Lanzetta Mutis, Ms Piya Bose, founder of Girls on the Go Club and Ms. Manjula Chaudhary, Dean, Kurukshetra University, were the key note speaker at the Conclave, which was opened on an ambitious note, discussing the"Social, Political and Economic Risk in Tourism”.
Ms. Monica Lanzetta Mutis on the occasion said that International tourism is the world's largest export earner. Tourism has also become one of the world's most important sources of employment. There are various risk associated to tourism sector which hampers its growth and needed to be looked upon. n addition, in some circumstances, instability in one country may have an impact on the tourism sector of neighboring countries.
Ms. Piya Bose, awarded as “Entrepreneur of the Year” at the conclave said that in an era of growing political turmoil, the tourism sector is facing a significant test. Political stability and safety are prerequisites for tourism; even the mere threat of events such as civil unrest and terrorism can cause tourists to rethink their decision to visit a destination. People like to travel to a destination that has a vibrant economy than one that doesn't.
Ms. Manjula Chaudhary during the conclave emphasized on having political, economical and social security in the country. Countries affected by various risks inevitably experiences a decline in the number of international tourists. No country has been able to shield its tourism sector against the impacts of insecurity.
Dr. K N S Kang, Director General, PCTE Group of Institutes congratulated the team of IHM on successfully organizing the Conclave. The Tourism Industry is large & diverse and in recent decades it has become an increasingly important part of the economy. Tourism is highly susceptible to external shocks such as natural disasters, political instability and terrorism because it is an industry where consumption is based on faith and trust, he added.
