MIDAS Architecture college announces Block-building competition for schools

Chennai, October 17, 2016: MIDAS Architecture College affiliated to Anna University, Chennai in association with Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School is set to conduct an ‘Inter School Block Building’ competition for the first time for School students in Chennai. Scheduled to be held on 22nd October 2016, this unique competition is organized to enhance creativity and cognitive skills among Children. Mr.Senthil Kumar, Chairman of Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) will be the Chief Guest for the event.
With a motto to encourage creativity among students, the competition is open for students from 11th & 12th standard. Students from different schools can participate as a team of three participants and a maximum of two teams can be nominated from each school. The teams will be provided with 100 wooden blocks (measuring 2.5 cm * 11 cm) to design & build complex structures under 90 minutes. Materials will be provided at the venue.
As a part of the competition, students will be introduced to the usage of ‘Kapla Wooden’, a well renowned material known for its durability and flexibility. With the use of these specialized wooden blocks, students will be encouraged to develop intricate structures without any additional materials. The daylong event will also host a series of sessions including Block Building Demo, presentation on ‘Opportunities in Architecture’ and other interactive sessions.
