PAU SIGNS MoA FOR STRAW MANAGEMENT

Ludhiana, January 18, 2018: With an aim to curb straw burning in the state, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has inked a pact with four companies, namely Ramji Agro-Industries, Nabha, Patiala; Dashmesh Mechanical Works Private Limited, Sangrur; Guru Nanak Agricultural Engineering Works, Barnala; and Nazar Singh and Sons, Nabha, Patiala, for thecommercialization of PAU Super SMS (Straw Management System) technology. Dr Navtej Singh Bains, Director of Research, PAU; Subhash Singh from Ramji Agro-Industries, Nabha, Patiala; Amar Singh from Dashmesh Mechanical Works Private Limited, Sangrur; Gursewak Singh from Guru Nanak Agricultural Engineering Works, Barnala; and Darshan Singh from Nazar Singh and Sons, Nabha, Patiala, signed the memoranda of agreement. Under this agreement, the University has offered non-exclusive rights to the companies to manufacture and sell PAU Super SMS technology.

Dr Bains said, “Along with scientists and farmers, we want to encourage industry to team-up and contribute to straw management in Punjab.” The PAU Super SMS is an attachment behind the combine harvester for even distribution of the straw, he added. This technology is highly beneficial for the straw management, he observed.

Dr S.S. Chahal, Adjunct Professor, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, said PAU has inked 84 MoAs so far, out of which, 40 are for PAU Super SMS.

Dr G.S. Manes, Senior Research Engineer, said this technology also facilitates the working of Happy Seeder andin-situstraw management machinery. Dr Manjeet Singh, Head, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, was also present on the occasion.
