PAU Holds Training Course On Mushroom Cultivation

Ludhiana, October 12, 2015: The Department of Extension Education of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized two training courses on “Mushroom Cultivation Techniques” in the villages of Rattowal and Boparai Kalan. A total of 60 farmers participated in these courses, which were conducted under the guidance of Dr Jaswinder Singh Bhalla, Professor and Head, Extension Education.
 
Addressing the farmers, Dr Dharminder Singh discussed the importance of mushroom cultivation as a subsidiary occupation for the farmers and unemployed rural youth.
 
Dr Poonam Bhatia, an expert of Microbiology, explained about the cultivation of button and dhingri mushrooms. Later on, she supervised the demonstration on compost preparation for button mushroom cultivation.
 
Another expert, Dr Pankaj Kumar asked the farmers to maintain close liaison with the PAU subject-matter specialists for technical guidance on various farm issues.
 
The training in the village Boparai Kalan was conducted by the farm experts namely Dr Vipan Kumar Rampal and Dr Lavleesh Garg. They honed the skills of the trainees regarding the cultivation of button and dhingri mushrooms. They also advised the farmers to adopt this occupation to increase their farm income.
