Ludhiana, December 22, 2015: The Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Amritsar demonstrated a technology on post emergence weed management in wheat in the villages NagKhurd, Vallah and Makhanwindi.
An expert from KVK, Amritsar, Dr Raminder Kaur educated the farmers about the control of weeds with tractor mounted spray pump with multi nozzle lance. The spray technology currently practiced by the farmers did control the weeds efficiently, but the new technology controls the weeds uniformly by using the recommended dose of herbicides and water (150-200 litres of water/acre), she told. It also covers large area in single run (about 30 ft). She also stressed that this was the crucial time for the management of weeds in wheat crop.
Mr Jagmohan Singh, an expert of Soil Science, guided the farmers on efficient use of fertilizers and irrigation management in wheat crop. He also discussed about the deficiency symptoms of macro and micro nutrients commonly occurred on wheat crop and their ameliorating measures. A large number of farmers participated and appreciated this new technology of weed management.
