Panjab University Hosts Seminar Marking 350th Martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji
Panjab University, Chandigarh, today hosted a Seminar in Commemoration of 350th Martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji on 19th November 2025 at the Seminar Hall, Rajiv Gandhi College Bhawan, Panjab University.
Chandigarh, November 19, 2025: Panjab University, Chandigarh, today hosted a Seminar in Commemoration of 350th Martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji on 19th November 2025 at the Seminar Hall, Rajiv Gandhi College Bhawan, Panjab University.
The programme, organised by the Office of the Dean, College Development Council, was held to honour the supreme sacrifice of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, revered as Hind Di Chadar, who laid down his life in 1675 to uphold human rights, freedom of conscience, and the values of courage and compassion.
PU DUI Prof. Yojna Rawat addressed the audience and shared her reflections on the moral courage of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji.
PU Registrar Prof. Y.P. Verma recalled the great contribution made by Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji and emphasised the relevance of his teachings in contemporary society.
Prof. Ravinder Singh, University of Delhi, delivered the keynote address, offering an in-depth perspective on Guru Sahib’s spiritual and historical legacy. S. Baljinder Singh, Advocate and Senior Standing Counsel, spoke on Guru Sahib’s unparalleled role in defending civil liberties and religious freedom.
Prof. Gurinder Singh Mann, Director, Global Institute for Sikh Studies, USA, presented a series of informative and visually engaging PPT slides, providing a scholarly view of the era.
As part of the commemorative activities, a tree plantation ceremony was also organised on the occasion.
Earlier, the event commenced with welcome address and opening remarks by PU Dean, College Development Council, Prof. Ravi Inder Singh, who reflected on the enduring significance of Guru Sahib’s message in today’s world.
The seminar witnessed active participation from Principals of various affiliated colleges, faculty members, and a significant number of non-teaching staff, making the event truly inclusive.
The programme concluded with a warm vote of thanks, acknowledging the speakers, dignitaries, staff, and attendees whose presence made the event meaningful and impactful.
