Panjab University (PU), organised a lecture on Drug De-Addiction Awareness titled “Awareness Today, A Drug Free Tomorrow” by the Department of Evening Studies Multi-Disciplinary Research Centre Chandigarh.

Chandigarh, February 13, 2026: Panjab University (PU), organised a lecture on Drug De-Addiction Awareness titled “Awareness Today, A Drug Free Tomorrow” by the Department of Evening Studies Multi-Disciplinary Research Centre Chandigarh. 

The keynote speaker, Dikshant Sharma, DDR Field Expert (R&E) cum MV (Chandigarh), associated with Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, delivered a lecture on the physical, psychological, social and emotional consequences of drug abuse. 

Sharma analysed the broader impact of addiction on families, educational institutions and society, and elaborated on the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. He outlined preventive strategies, early intervention mechanisms and the importance of community participation in curbing substance abuse. He also encouraged students to adopt constructive coping strategies and contribute to awareness efforts within their peer networks.

Chairperson of Evening Department Prof. Vandna Maini urged students to remain mentally resilient and resist peer pressure, emphasising that awareness and self-discipline are critical in countering the threat of drug addiction. She highlighted the role of educational institutions in shaping informed and socially responsible citizens.

Earlier, the programme commenced with the screening of a documentary prepared by students of the Department, highlighting the realities of drug abuse and its long-term consequences on individuals and families. The film also presented national and international initiatives undertaken to address substance abuse through coordinated action.

Prof. Gurpreet Kaur Gill, Programme Convener, emphasised the importance of sustained awareness initiatives and encouraged students to actively engage in campaigns promoting a drug-free society.
