Ludhiana, May 4, 2016: With the on-going admission process for the academic session 2016-17, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has called upon the public to apply and seek admission to French courses at PAU.

Ms Harpreet Bains, Assistant Professor, French Courses, PAU, said, “Among the foreign languages, French is the most sought after and very popular among the students of PAU and the residents of Ludhiana city.” With the fast changing scenario globally, learning of foreign languages, including French, is becoming more and more relevant and desirable, she observed. Nowadays, a large number of young men and women going to Canada for higher studies/immigration apply for French courses, she told. There is a great scope for the French courses and people are motivated by the genuine desire of learning French, a major European language, she added.

Tracing the history, Ms Bains said, “PAU introduced a proficiency course in French for postgraduate students in 1965. Since its inception, this course has been running extremely well and there has been a steady increase in the number of candidates.” In order to cope with this ever increasing demand, PAU took an initiative by introducing a one-year certificate course in French in 2005. Witnessing an overwhelming response to the certificate course, a diploma in French of one-year duration was also approved in 2010 by the Academic Council of the University, she added. Both these courses have been very well-received, she said.

It may be mentioned that people, from various professions, seek admission to the French courses such as engineers, doctors, senior executives, secretaries, office clerks, university and college teachers, young college graduates, research scholars, at times unemployed housewives, etc.

The aspirants can apply for the Certificate Course and Diploma in French in the mid of July 2016.
