One of US' most wanted fugitives arrested in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, May 10 (IANS) Amith Muddamalli Livingston, one of the America's most wanted fugitives, was arrested here, police said Saturday.

Livingston was absconding since 2007 after a US court sentenced him for 23 years in prison for killing his girlfriend.

In 2008, the state of Texas had issued a red corner notice through the Interpol.

Acting on the information given by the Crime Investigation Department (CID), police arrested Livingston in Madhavapuri Colony, Sainikpuri here.

Livingston, born in Hyderabad, was convicted in 2007 for the murder of his girlfriend Hermilia Garcia Harnandez.

The 404th Judicial District Court, Cameron County, Texas, had sentenced him to 23 years in prison.

Livingston had pleaded guilty in February 2007 to killing his married girlfriend and dumping her body on the beaches of South Padre Island.

The 45-year-old medical transcriptionist was reportedly a fan of singles chat websites and social media. He used to enjoy face-to-face dates.

"Before the sentence could commence on his appearance before the Cameron County Sheriff's Office on April 14, 2007, he escaped and failed to surrender. He entered India with fake identity and on illegal travel documents," said a statement by the CID Saturday.

The CID has been tracking his movements for the past one year and finally located him.

Livingston was sent to judicial custody. He is lodged in Cherlapally Jail here.

The CID had informed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the union home affairs ministry of the arrest.
