NYK Clubs to participate in Green Punjab Mission to fight climate change

Ferozepur, July 9, 2013:  To make the Green Punjab Mission successful to fight climate change, the tree plantation campaign in the district, the clubs in the rural areas attached with Nehru Yuvak Kendra will actively participate as per directions of Manjit Singh Narang, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur, said Sarabjit Singh Bedi, District Youth Coordinator, Ferozepur in a meeting held with the Presidents of the Clubs.

Bedi informed that the Forest Department will provide free saplings for plantation at the common places like schools, panchayat houses, cremation grounds etc. The main aim of tree plantation campaign is to make the pollution free environment to achieve the give targets by the district administration. 

He further said, “The Green Punjab Mission is a part of the Green India Mission, of India's plan to fight climate change, proposed to double the area being taken up for afforestation and eco-restoration over the next decade.  The new and restored forest areas will act as a carbon sink. They are expected to absorb an additional 43 million tonnes of green house gases every year. This means that India's forests will be able to absorb 6.35 per cent of the country's annual emissions by 2020”.

All the presidents of the clubs present in the meeting assured to actively participate to make the Green Punjab Mission a successful project of the Nehru Yuvak Kendras.

In the meeting, Sushil Kumar, Jasbir Singh, Kuldip Singh, Mandeep Singh, Kishore Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Shivani, Iqbal Singh, Rupinder Singh, Kamaljit Monga and other prominent citizens were present
