Chandigarh, February 5, 2016: Chitkara University is not only committed to provide integrated learning environment to its students but also ensures that students are morally binded especially in this modern competitive world. Chitkara University dedicated the New year beginning to the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). University under NSS organized a 10 day annual camp which was inaugurated by Sh. Subhash Chand, Director of N.S.S regional canter, Chandigarh. He shared his pearls of wisdom and motivated students that how they being in a technical field can bring a change in the society and suggested them numerous ways by which they can serve society.
The camp was an amalgamation of various kind of activities like visit to handicapped home, Drug De Addiction Rally, Bijli Bachao Desh Banao Rally, ?sports Meet for the underprivileged, blood donation camp and various other activities. “A life may depend on a gesture from you, a bottle of Blood”. It was heartwarming to see the ?students and ??faculty supporting this noble cause and coming forward to donate the blood during the ? ?Blood Donation Camp organized in collaboration with Indra Gandhi Medical College and hospital, Shimla.
Volunteers visited the orphanage “Kartar Aasra”, sector 1 Panchkula, the aim of visit was to sensitize students to the predicaments and problems of people living. Students interacted with the individuals and shared their thoughts and views with them. Volunteers organized a drawing competition for the children and best entries among them were rewarded. After a wonderful afternoon at the orphanage then volunteers visited Mother Teresa handicapped home, saket spent some time with the students, although the visit was of few hours but it left a lasting impression on all. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has become a ‘Jan Andolan’ and Chitkara University also plunged into the initiative as all . Taking the broom to sweep the surroundings , focusing on sanitation and maintaining a hygienic environment in synch with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was well practiced to spread the message ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness'.
Camp started with meditation classes and then tree plantation drive was carried out in the campus. Carrying forward the zeal of serving the underprivileged people the volunteers went for distributing more than 50 pairs of slippers in the slum area of the village Navangar. A  free dental check-up camp was organized in collaboration with Bhojia Dental College, Baddi for the people dwelling in the nearby villages. Volunteers also learned that how waste plastic cold drinks bottles, discarded tyres etc. can be reused to make attractive decorative articles and the activity was conducted in collaboration with NGO Mahal Welfare Services. Later towards evening a rally on “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” in the adopted village, Kalujhanda was conducted.
The entire camp was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sushil Kumar, head of NSS and program officer Ms. Pooja Dhiman. She said that by conducting such activities the students understand the community well, needs and problems and they develop a sense of social and civic responsibility. It was a good practice of imbibing national integration and social harmony among the students.
